The online service platform is a hybrid of traditional PR and a DIY model involving press releases and bios written by music journalists coupled with access into a comprehensive, targeted media database containing bloggers, newspapers, magazines and radio stations throughout the UK. In a recent announcement, 8digital and EmuBands are now collaborating to provide a rounded offer of digital music distribution and Publicity to unsigned bands and smaller labels. EmuBands are a low-cost digital music distribution service with a simple one-time fee and widespread distribution to the World’s leading digital retailers.
‘We have designed the site to be flexible for either a quick win or a longer sustained campaign’ stated Joanie Fleming. ‘Our goal was to develop a service that was cost and time efficient with assisted navigation through media channels to target relevant contacts and with a view to maximising these media channels to increase the chance of successful outcomes. The collaboration with EmuBands offers discounted distribution from their side and a discounted 15% on publicity packs for shared clients.’’

The site is constructed around a media database segmented into various channels of newspapers, magazines, bloggers and radio stations searchable by music genre, location and region. UK Venues have been added to a ‘Tour Package’ designed to support an artist on a UK tour by providing all the relevant contacts grouped by genre and location. Director of 8digital, Joanie Fleming said of the targeted packages, ‘All media within the database has been carefully grouped. We are very aware that a scattergun publicity campaign can be a waste of time, effort and money. The secret of successful publicity is to target relevant media with professionally written material and this is what we provide at 8digital.’
Information sheets and maps are part of the package deals, with three of the four packages receiving expert help with written material from journalists currently at The Quietus and Vive Le Rock. Joanie says ‘No-one knows the secret of a successful Press Release more than a music journalist and this is why we have asked the best of the current publications to contribute.’
http://www.8digital.org has already launched with work underway to expand the package offer to the Arts in general and mainstream business.
