The session will outline potential risks and provide recommendations for minimizing operational impact through ICD-10 collaborative partner testing.

Edifecs’ Dr. Parag Patel and Kristine Weinberger will lead the discussion on ICD-10 testing, one of the most difficult testing projects many organizations will tackle due to the size of the change, cross-functional impact and dependencies with many trading partners.

The ICD-10 mandate is one of the most extensive conversion projects State Medicaid Programs and Medicaid providers will face. While a more strategic approach to testing requires new levels of collaboration and information sharing among trading partners, a failure to do so may result in significant coding and payment issues once the mandate is in full affect. Testing will be a key process for successful adoption of ICD-10 across the entire healthcare industry.

The mandate ushers in a new level of granular information that has the potential for taking the healthcare industry to a greater level of patient care by providing specific documentation to enable better health outcomes. A discussion focused on the best practices Medicaid Programs and their providers can use to minimize disruption to both financial and operational processes through the industry’s transition to ICD-10. The session will share lessons learned from current testing efforts and discuss alignment of testing for various initiatives. Additionally the session will outline:

  •     The transition requirements that make ICD-10 testing complicated
  •     Methods for sample testing that capitalize on collaboration
  •     Challenges in clinical and policy testing strategies
  •     The key benefits and challenges of collaborative testing approaches
