Casey Trees to Convene National Experts for Canopy Symposium

On Thursday, Oct. 18, Casey Trees will host a day-long Tree Canopy Symposium at the FHI 360 Conference Center to draw attention to the state of the region’s urban forest and promote cooperation and coordination among local and federal government agencies, nonprofits, institutions and the private sector.

“The stage is set for scientists, practitioners and local and national leaders to improve best practices and enliven important discussions regarding urban tree canopy,” said Jessica Sanders, Casey Trees’ Director of Technical Services and Research and conference organizer. “Particularly for us at Casey Trees, monetizing, quantifying and improving urban tree canopy cover is crucial to our mission.”

Featured speakers include former D.C. mayor Anthony A. Williams, District Department of the Environment Director Christophe A.G...Sullivan, Professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Additional presentations will be made by nationally renowned thought leaders from the U.S...Environmental Protection Agency, the University of Vermont Spatial Analysis Laboratory and Davey Tree Institute.

Registration is first come, first serve. A $35 per person early-bird special runs until Sept. 3, however interested individuals can register for $55 until Oct. 15. On-site registration costs $60 — cash or checks only — at the door the day of. (Note: Casey Trees cannot guarantee space will be available to accept late registrations at the door.)
