During the summer of 2010, Chicago Public Schools terminated over 1300 teachers without regard to qualifications or seniority. In August 2010, Congress passed the Education Jobs Act Funds to restore teaching positions across the nation. Chicago Public Schools received $104 million for that purpose however according to CPS accounts, $30 million remains unspent while over 400 illegally fired teachers remained without jobs.
