MaximsNewsNetwork: 10 May 2010 - UNAMID: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - United Nations (UN) Joint Special Representative in Darfur Ibrahim Gambari called for a highly conclusive ceasefire agreement through the Doha peace process at a press conference following the tripartite meeting on Sudan's comprehensive peace agreement in Ethiopia today (10 May). He addressed the press after attending the eighth tripartite meeting organized by the UN, the African Union (AU) and the Government of Sudan at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa. He added that although the security situation in Darfur has vastly improved, there are still challenges and called for all kind of direct fighting between the government and the rebel movement to cease. The meeting reviewed the latest development on the deployment of the UN-AU Hybrid Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) and the current security situation in Darfur. It also considered the reconfiguration of the tripartite mechanism. AU Commissioner for Peace and security Ramtane Lamamra said that synergies being currently developed that will allow the whole international community to help move forward our peace agenda. UN Peacekeeping chief Alain Le Roy was also present at the meeting. The meeting also focused on the protection of UNAMID personnel and the implementation of its mandate.
