Gael Bigirimana Signs for Newcastle United FC (06.07.12) Bigirimana makes Newcastle move Newcastle United have completed the signing of teenage midfielder Gael Bigirimana from Coventry City. The 18-year-old Burundi-born player, who moved to Britain as a refugee in 2004, has signed a five-year contract at St James' Park after moving for an undisclosed fee. Bigirimana is seen as a potential addition to the development squad on Tyneside with owner Mike Ashley keen to invest in the future of the club as well as the present. Bigirimana, who made 28 senior appearances for Coventry last season, 16 of them Championship starts, is understood to have cost Newcastle around £1 million, although the midlands club were keen to negotiate a sell-on clause as part of any deal.
