Production of coke in the CIS countries is mainly conducted at delayed coking units (DCU). A feature of DCU operation is the fact that the facilities use, as resources, various semis and wastes of oil refining at a refinery. Quality parameters of petroleum coke, produced in the CIS, are typical for world practice (for use in aluminium industry). Sulfur content in them is 1.38-2.52%, vanadium – 140-390 ppm. However, some producers – Novoil, Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery – yield coke with too high content of sulfur and vanadium.

Petroleum coke, produced in Russia, is characterized by low content of volatile components – 7.6-10.2%.
