Anadarko Petroleum Corp has announced that it has shut down production of eight of its energy sites in the Gulf of Mexico and surrounding areas due to the fact that Tropical Storm Debby is threatening the region, reports the Chicago Tribune. This has left many area residents wishing that (at least during hurricane season) they could generate their wealth by working at home. One of the platforms that has been shut down is the Independence Hub—a platform that is considered highly important due to the fact that it can produce as much as a billion cubic feet of natural gas per day. The company announced that it had removed all personnel from the facilities.Tropical Storm Debby is one of the first named storms in the 2012 Atlantic Hurricane season to threaten this specific region. Some weather authorities predict that the storm may move toward Florida as it moves northward towards the United States; however, many scientists are predicting that Tropical Storm Debby will move towards Texas and across south Louisiana. This region holds the majority of the Gulf’s oil and gas platforms.
