Annual Conference & Expo in Houston, Texas.

“We are thrilled to have won this award for our Cleaner Burning Stoves Project in Peru,” said Richard A. Webb, founder and president of ProWorld. “We are extremely proud of the positive impact our stoves project has had in Peru, specifically in helping to reduce the negative effects of indoor air pollution on women and children in rural communities.”

ProWorld has spent the last 12 years connecting volunteers with Peruvian locals to implement community development projects in the Cusco and Urubamba regions of Peru. To date, with the help of community partners, students, volunteers, interns, and various funds, ProWorld Peru has installed more than 6,000 cleaner burning stoves in rural Peruvian communities. The impact of these stoves has been profound – in both sustainability and health. As a leader in this space, ProWorld Peru stoves were part of the first UN Gold Standard grade carbon credit stove project in Peru.

The GoAbroad Innovation Awards reception recognized every organization and institution that was a finalist, as well as revealing the winners in each category. Each finalist was evaluated based on the quality of the submission, combined with the originality, creativity, and exceptional ideas expressed in the contribution. The GoAbroad Innovations Academy, comprised of a small group of esteemed international educators, selected the winners.

ProWorld’s mission is to empower communities, promote social and economic development, conserve the environment, and cultivate educated compassionate global citizens...Webb and Nick Bryngelson, started ProWorld twelve years ago with the vision of creating sustainable change by working closely and collaboratively with local communities to connect them with global volunteers.

ProWorld volunteer abroad opportunities are also offered in Belize, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Ghana, India, Mexico, Morocco, Nepal, Panama, Philippines, South Africa, and Thailand, and focus on important global issues: health, environment and social/economic development. Recently, ProWorld launched ProWorld Foundation, a non-profit that works closely with ProWorld field offices to identify and raise additional funding for the most successful and influential projects. To date, ProWorld volunteers have logged more than 800,000 hours of volunteer service and injected more than $7 million of needed capital into local economies.
