The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) announced today the election of Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceuticals Group Worldwide Chairman Joaquin Duato and AstraZeneca Global Commercial Executive Vice President Tony Zook to its Board of Directors.
“We are pleased to welcome two industry veterans – Mr. Duato and Mr. Zook – to PhRMA’s Board of Directors,” said PhRMA President and CEO John J. Castellani. “As we continue to advocate for innovation and patient-centered policies in the U.S. and around the world, PhRMA and its membership will undoubtedly benefit from these leaders’ keen insights and deep knowledge of our sector.”
Mr. Duato is Worldwide Chairman, Pharmaceuticals Group, at Johnson & Johnson. In this role, he is responsible for the company’s global pharmaceutical commercial businesses and the Operations, Quality and Compliance functional groups that support the commercial and research and development organizations. Mr. Zook is the Executive Vice President of AstraZeneca’s Global Commercial organization, accountable for worldwide marketing and sales activities, as well as central commercial capabilities and strategies that support those efforts. The global marketing and sales business guides the development and leads the strategic marketing of prescription drugs designed to improve the health and quality of life of patients around the world.

Prior to this role, Mr. Zook directed AstraZeneca’s largest market – North America – and headed the company’s Global Marketing function. He was also President of AstraZeneca’s biologics business MedImmune. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Frostburg University and an Associate's Degree in Chemical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University.
