This summer Matt and Jackie Jones are in Haiti for 6 weeks with their two beautiful daughters. While there, they will be implementing projects developed by Poverty Resolutions. Before this trip, Jackie had never been to Haiti, but now she can finally see the place and people that her husband labors for every day.
Rather than attempt to juggle his time between his passion and his family, Matt and his wife Jackie have made the decision to combine the two. “I’m all-in here at Poverty Resolutions,” Matt said, “I wanted my family to be a part of it. Instead of a job, Jackie and I made it a lifestyle.”
When Matthew Jones received his undergraduate degree in 2003, the housing market was in full swing. His first job consisted of selling mortgages and flipping properties. At 23, he was doing quite well for himself financially.
“I wasn’t hating it,” Matt said, “but I wasn’t loving it. I didn’t feel comfortable selling mortgages to people who couldn’t afford them. I knew I didn’t want to do that for 30 years.”
Matt went back to school to get his MBA. He graduated first in his class from Penn State’s Smeal College of Business. With that level of achievement, opportunities open up.
“My classmates had jobs lined up starting at 70-, 80-, even 90- thousand a year, with no work experience.”
Yet, at 31-years-old, married, and with a 2nd daughter on the way, Matt’s goal was not money. Instead, he used his newly acquired business acumen to start a nonprofit dedicated to raising poverty awareness and implementing sustainable solutions to help the people of Haiti. It has been 2 years since Matt took that leap of faith.
