In the light of the ongoing bloody atrocities committed by the Assad regime against unarmed civilians in Syria, and given the fact that Sheherazad Jaafari is working as a direct aide and advisor to Bashar Al-Assad (See: Sheherazad Jaafari: Columbia Accepts Assad Aide http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/regions/middle-east/syria/120607/sheherazad-jaafari-columbia-accepts-assad-aide) the Syrian Expatriates Organization (SEO) urges Columbia University to adhere to general ethical principles and rescind admission to Jaafari, who has been aiding the leader of a dictatorial regime that has killed tens of thousands of Syrian civilians.
SEO believes the prestige of Columbia University is at stake, and must be preserved from being tainted by allowing the admission of a well-known aide to Bashar Assad, whose regime has been described by the UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon as “lacking fundamental humanity.” http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2012/06/08/Ban-Assad-regime-lacks-fundamental-humanity/UPI-19771339137000/
Mr Abdulla Ibraheem, Board member said ”The suffering of the Syrian people has escalated even further after two gruesome massacres in the villages of Al-Houla and Al-Qubair that claimed the lives of more than 200 people, most of them women and children. We consider granting Jaafari admission to Columbia University, given her well-documented history as a personal advisor to Assad extremely troubling. We hope that Columbia University will rescind Jaafari’s admission and join other universities in supporting the Syrian struggle for freedom and democracy.”
