Truck accident attorney Michael Leizerman applauds the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance for its annual Roadcheck commercial vehicle inspection event. June 04, 2012
The annual pop quiz that puts truck drivers and their vehicles to the test is set to take place on highways across North America. During Roadcheck 2012, this year's version of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's annual inspection blitz, about 10,000 truck and bus inspectors will be stationed at more than 1,500 locations beginning Tuesday, June 5, through Thursday, June...Last year's 72-hour inspection blitz, for example, uncovered that nearly 20 percent of the large trucks inspected were unfit for the road after being tagged for serious infractions such as malfunctioning brakes...But following the alarming findings of a year ago, they will pay particular attention to two areas that failed badly last year: vehicle brake systems and drivers' hours-of-service compliance. More than half of last year's out-of-service violations were the result of braking systems.
Last year, at inspection points from Canada to Mexico, the Roadcheck program inspected 16 trucks or buses every minute. Federal Motor Carrier Administration, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators, Transport Canada, and the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (Mexico). The event officially begins Tuesday, June 5, with a kickoff at FedEx Field in Landover, MD, hosted by the Maryland State Police.
