The Pritzker Military Library, one of Chicago’s newest premier cultural institutions, has made public its May 2012 program offerings.

The Library collects and preserves materials related to military history. It also brings the story of America’s Citizen Soldiers to the widest possible audience by a presenting a broad range of dynamic programming. May’s program offerings include:

“Citizen Soldier: Reserves and the National Guard in the 21st Century,” a panel discussion by retired U.S...COX will discuss and read from her new book, Into Dust and Fire: Five Young Americans Who Went First to Fight the Nazis...The Library is pleased to invite Chicago area teachers and educators to tour the facility, view the collections, and learn more about how to partner with the Library for the benefit of their students. Participants are welcome to join Library members for a free screening of 11-11-11 at 5:30, and a Q&A session with the creators of this feature length documentary film following the screening.

In honor of Memorial Day, the Pritzker Military Library will be open free of charge on Saturday, May 26th. The Library will also be participating in the Memorial Day Parade in Chicago.

May is Documentary Month for the Pritzker Military Library’s Feature Film series. All films are Saturday matinees, and are shown at 1 pm in the Library’s Lecture Hall. All films are free with general Library admission, which is free for Library members.

The debut of 11-11-11 on May 5th, explores what it means to be a veteran by looking at the postwar experience of a diverse group of 15 U.S. veterans of different wars...The film’s creators will be present for a Q&A session immediately after the May 24th screening...Ground Truth: After the Killing Fields (May 19) explores the psychological effects of war and combat on Iraq-era veterans. Forgotten Heroes (May 26) brings to light the story of the “Philippine Scouts,” a U.S...Pacific Theater during World War II.
