The state Department of Ecology is tracking two sewage spills into the Columbia River. The agency is working with East Wenatchee officials to determine the cause of a 500,000-gallon sewage spill into the river overnight Sunday. An operator at the city's wastewater treatment plant discovered the spill Monday...Meanwhile, officials in Trail, British Columbia are working to repair a broken sewer line that is spilling raw sewage into the river about 10 miles north of the U.S.-Canada border. Canadian officials estimate that up to 15 million gallons will ultimately be spilled by the time repairs are made Tuesday. The Northeast Tri-County Health District in Colville is warning citizens to stay away from the river until the sewage has finished running downriver.
