Multidisciplinary artist Beili Liu is a Chinese-American artist who has exhibited widely in the United States, Europe and China. Liu’s upcoming solo exhibition will be held at Hua Gallery, London, UK, from March 22 through May 31, 2012. The London installation, entitled Lure/London, will be a new site-responsive composition of Liu’s Lure Installation Series. Two Dimensional works that will also be featured include Liu’s “process drawings”—Incense Drawings, a new Wind Drawing series, and graphite works.

Liu’s Lure Installation Series have received numerous critical reviews from prominent publications.

Chris Moore from Saatchi Online Review, UK praised the work as an “intensely sensual exhibition about transformation, memory and their relations” and that the exhibit was “captivating precisely because of its lightness.”

Janos Gereben The San Francisco Examiner referred to the work as a “legend made visible”… and “a remarkably original installation.” Janet Koplos from Art in America commended Liu’s works for being “materially simple but metaphorically rich.”

Beili has also exhibited at the Norwegian National Art and Culture Center; National Art Museum, Lithuania; Elisabeth de Brabant Art Center, Shanghai; Galerie an der Pinakothek de Modern, Munich; Onoma Foundation Granary Gallery, Finland; Hå Gamle Prestegard; Asia Unlimited Gallery, Berlin, Germany; Nordisk Kunst Plattform, Brusand, Norway; Hua Gallery, London; and the Chinese Culture Foundation, San Francisco. Beili Liu's time and process-based installations explore subjects of cultural specificity and overlaps, transient or persistent energy, and conflicting and confluent forces. Beili uses simple materials and compounds such as thread, paper, incense, wood, salt, and water as the vehicles by which she hand crafts microcosms of fragility and poignancy...Seven Irvin from Buzzine said, “The incendiary work of Cai Guo-Qiang…comes to mind as Liu prefaces in her artist statement: ‘My work depends on a genuine connection to the material.’ … there is a relative and prominent parallel between each artist’s gaze on the collective, multiple content artwork and the almost mundane, everyday material that makes them…”

Alex Codlin from Women and Their Work Gallery (valued Liu’s 2011 installation and performance work, The Mending Project as “a historical parallel to Yoko Ono’s seminal work Cut Piece. Ono’s Cut Piece has been interpreted as a landmark feminist work of art, which addressed issues of anger and violence against the gendered body of a woman...She has held solo exhibitions at venues such as the Norwegian National Art and Culture center; National Art Museum, Lithuania; Elisabeth de Brabant Art Center, Shanghai; Galerie an der Pinakothek de Modern, Munich; Onoma Foundation Granary gallery, Finland; Hå Gamle Prestegard; Asia Unlimited Gallery, Berlin, Germany; Nordisk Kunst Plattform, Brusand, Norway; Hua Gallery, London; and the Chinese Culture Foundation, San Francisco.
