Despite this, Government statistics show that women are being disproportionately affected by the recession, with women making up two thirds of the recent increase in those claiming unemployment benefit, making the appeal of entrepreneurial ventures perhaps even more prevalent in unemployed women.
At the foundation of economic prosperity is entrepreneurial drive and ambition, and with unemployment at its highest point for almost two decades, a "do it yourself" approach seems to be increasingly appealing.
