In a unique Public Private partnership Balipara Tract & Frontier Foundation and Lifesaver USA have partnered to conduct a pilot program to deliver water filtration technology to Assam. February 22, 2012
The program will see Lifesaver’s industry leading filtration products, the bottle, and the jerrycan, distributed to people with limited access to clean water. “Distribution of the bottles will target pregnant woman with the goal of protecting them and their infant from water borne disease which has been shown as a key factor in maternal and infant mortality. The distribution of the jerrycan will focus on families who have limited access to clean water – in particular those who are affected by seasonal flooding from the Brahmaputra” commented Lifesaver USA Vice President for Humanitarian and Health Programs, Mr. Richard Vander Burg.
A recent publication estimated that globally there are 1.4 million preventable child diarrhea deaths annually and that 88% of diarrhea cases are due to unsafe water, sanitation, and hygiene. Additionally 50% of underweight/malnutrition is associated with repeated diarrhea from unsafe water and waterborne disease.
