li>    Day 5: Factorial Designs

The courses are tailored for professionals working in the automotive industry, chemical production plants and other companies involved in manufacturing. The course materials include examples with metrics such as diameters, pressure and hardness.

The full five days of training costs $2125; registration for individual sessions is also available. Two or more people from the same organization receive a 5% discount if they register before March 5. Registration is available online at http://www.minitab.com/en-US/training/instructor-led/training-details.aspx?eventId=963

All of Minitab’s instructor-led training includes plenty of time to practice what learned under the guidance of expert trainers with years of experience implementing quality improvement projects. Trainers make complex concepts easy to grasp and are highly regarded for their engaging style and personal attention.

Paul Sheehy, Minitab technical training specialist and certified Six Sigma Black Belt, will be the instructor for the Phoenix sessions. Sheehy earned bachelor’s degrees in both industrial technology and mechanical engineering while employed at GE. In academia, he served as an adjunct professor and industrial advisor for Mechanical Engineering Technology at the University of Maine.

After becoming a Master Black Belt, Sheehy deployed the Six Sigma program at the GE Power Systems facility and taught Six Sigma methodology at various GE locations. Sheehy also worked for the Six Sigma Academy, where he was a master consultant and trainer for five years before coming to Minitab.

His extensive training experience, coupled with over 35 years’ experience in both manufacturing and business processes with companies such as GE, Saco Defense, and Irving Leather, makes Sheehy an excellent resource to his class participants.

“I frequently tell my students that their success is the only measure of my success,” says Sheehy.

The skills covered in the five day-long courses are detailed below.

Introduction to Minitab
Participants learn to create, manipulate and restructure data and how to create and interpret a wide variety of graphs and numerical measures useful for quality improvement initiatives. Basic Statistics
Participants learn to match appropriate statistical tools to their own applications and how to correctly interpret statistical output to quickly reveal problems or show evidence of improvement. Participants explore critical features in their processes through statistical modeling tools that help to uncover and describe relationships between variables. Participants learn to build on fundamental statistical analysis concepts taught in the Basic Statistics course by exploring additional statistical modeling tools that help reveal key inputs and sources of variation in processes. Binary and Nominal Logistic Regression.

Statistical Quality Analysis
Participants learn the basic fundamentals of statistical process control and how these quality tools can provide the necessary evidence to improve and control manufacturing processes. Topics include Gage R&R, Destructive Testing, Gage Linearity and Bias, Attribute Agreement, Variables and Attribute Control Charts, Capability Analysis for Normal, Non-normal and Attribute data.

Factorial Designs
Participants learn to generate full and fractional factorial designed experiments, then interpret and communicate results to improve products and processes, reduce process variation, and expedite development projects. Topics include Design of Factorial Experiments; Normal Effects Plot and Pareto of Effects; Power and Sample Size; Main Effect, Interaction and Cube Plots; Center Points; Overlaid Contour Plots; and Multiple Response Optimization.
