Skechers for injuries that plaintiffs claim were caused by the manufacturer’s rocker bottom toning shoes.
The new multidistrict litigation case is Skechers Toning Shoe Products Liability Litigation (MDL No...District Court for the Western District of Kentucky before the Honorable Thomas B. We are extremely pleased that the panel recognized that consumers would benefit from having all the questions that Skechers has to answer before one federal judge,” said Robert K. Jenner, a Baltimore personal injury attorney with the law firm of Janet, Jenner & Suggs, LLC.
Jenner, along with Kentucky attorneys Ronald E. Johnson, Jr., and Jay Vaughn, represent injured consumers nationwide who have filed federal toning shoe injury lawsuits against Skechers Fitness Group, Skechers, USA, Inc., Skechers and USA, Inc. Jenner said.
Skechers manufactures rocker bottom toning shoes – called Skechers Shape-Ups – and has said the footwear provides several health benefits. However, as of May 2011, Consumer Reports has documented that Skechers has seen more reports of injuries or complaints than any other product in its database.
“These injuries are not surprising, because by altering gait mechanics and creating instability, we believe Skechers Shape-Ups place consumers at increased risk for chronic injuries, such as stress fractures and tendon ruptures, as well as acute injuries from falling,” Johnson said.
Jenner’s law firm website, http://www.toningshoesinjury.com, lists some of the accidents and injuries that have been associated with toning shoes, including broken bones and stress fractures.
A 2010 Consumer Reports study cautioned the public about toning shoe injuries.
“If you want to tone your legs and buttocks, we think you’re better off spending time in the gym than wearing shoes that could send you to the couch with your foot in a cast,” the study said.
