Materials and Chemistry Laboratory Inc. (MCLinc) of Oak Ridge will provide samples and technical support for the SEM. “We are pleased to assist in this important project,” said Barry Stephenson, president and CEO of MCLinc. Roane State chemistry professor Dr. Ronald Sternfels said that both companies’ donation of time, technology and resources gives student a unique learning opportunity. “In a typical lecture, you are group learning,” Sternfels said, “with this, students drive their own discovery process. Ethan Brown of Lenoir City, commented, “The microscope makes the theories you hear in the classroom come together. It puts together the pieces of the puzzle.”

Roane State Community College is a comprehensive public, two-year, post-secondary institution serving the higher education needs of an eight-county area in eastern Tennessee. Currently, more than 6, 500 students are pursuing two-year associate degrees or academic certificates in a range of health science programs as well as business management, office administration, police science, and other fields.
