Group practice magnifies the profound effects of meditation, which changes brain patterns and clears the subconscious...Any pursuit is stronger when people work together with a shared intention...This even benefits people who don’t meditate, which means community meditation promotes peace at large.

Meditations are done in the in the style of Kundalini Yoga, a potent yoga style that combines chanting, poses and meditation in sets called kriyas. In this style, specific mantras are chanted for a certain amount of time, which then yields a specific outcome. For example, YogaSoul’s first group meditation was for financial prosperity...YogaSoul students, and even the center itself, noticed a greater flow of income in their lives.

The center debuted its second community meditation on 11/11/11, the beginning of what’s known as the Age of Aquarius -- a time of global, personal and spiritual transformation. YogaSoul’s leaders chose “Meditation to Penetrate the Unknown Without Fear.”

As people face uncertainty -- economic, political, personal, and more -- this meditation alleviates stress and fear that change can bring. People begin showing up to their lives differently when they can face the unknown with more confidence, said Tarisa Parrish, owner of YogaSoul.

“It’s a powerful meditation for change,” said Nicole Nardone, YogaSoul instructor, energy worker and holistic healer.

Group meditations are done in every Kundalini yoga class for 40 days per meditation. Students are also encouraged to practice each specific meditation outside of class; the idea is that everyone is working together toward the same outcome.

Specific amounts of time create certain desired effects, change old habits and develop new ones. For example, meditating for three minutes affects circulation and blood stability, Kundalini yoga science explains. Meanwhile, meditating for 11 minutes changes the pituitary gland and nerves. It takes 40 days to break a habit, 90 days to confirm a new one, and 1,000 days to master it.

YogaSoul has just begun community meditation, but Parrish says they plan on continuing the practice in the coming months and years.
