Foodservice industry pioneer Dan Grinberg announced the launch of Elara Foodservice Disposables LLC, headquartered in Jericho, New York, combining the business of foodservice disposables with the social mission of feeding the hungry. October 20, 2011

Foodservice industry pioneer Dan Grinberg announced the launch of Elara Foodservice Disposables LLC, headquartered in Jericho, New York, combining the business of foodservice disposables with the social mission of feeding the hungry. Grinberg previously built FoodHandler Inc. to $80 million in annual revenue before selling the company, and he is now launching Elara to provide a fresh approach to foodservice disposables.

Elara is a designer and producer of food contact gloves, food storage bags, plastic cutlery, meal kits and related single-use products used by commercial and non-commercial foodservice operators. The company is dedicated to providing high-quality, professional strength products at affordable prices at a time when many disposables suppliers seem to be cutting corners, potentially compromising their customers’ food safety.

Elara has also incorporated the social mission of fighting hunger in America into the company’s DNA. Shoes, which provides a pair of shoes to a needy child for every pair bought by a customer. “I got very excited when I realized that there was an emerging model for combining business with philanthropy,” he says. “Not only are our products better for our customers, they are also better for our community.”

Grinberg serves on the Board of Directors of Island Harvest, a Long Island (New York) food bank, and is the organization’s treasurer. In 2010 Grinberg received Island Harvest’s Linda Breitstone spirit award, which recognizes “individuals whose passion, determination and hard work have made a positive difference in the lives of neighbors struggling with adversity.”
