With its first-generation Fit, launched in the U.S. only a year ago, still flying off dealer lots, Honda is about to launch the second-generation model in Japan. The new Fit (which is sold in some markets as the Jazz) is larger all around than the outgoing model, particularly on the inside, where a two-inch-longer wheelbase and innovative packaging gives the car (says Honda) the space of a mid-size sedan. One notable new option is a very cool panoramic skyroof, as seen in the photo, left. Mechanically, the Japanese model offers 1.3- and 1.5-liter four-cylinder engines, matched either to a continuously variable transmission or a five-speed manual. The new Fit is set to arrive in the U.S. in the fall of 2008 as a 2009 model — only with the 118-horsepower, 1.5-liter engine.
