Senior Tribal Journalist Khyal Zaman Afridi was seriously wounded in Bara Khyber Agency. President of Tribal Union of Journalists Khyber Agency was bruised seriously with bullets by some kidnappers who tried to kidnap him and his two friends from Lahore on Sunday August 3,2008.The kidnappers succeeded to kidnap Wasim resident of Lahore on gun point while Khyal Zaman Afridi was attempted to be killed when he resisted to be kidnapped. In the meanwhile armed persons of Lashker Islam Bara reached on the spot when they heard firings and apprehended two persons from the kidnappers namely Omer and Ishaq belonging to Bara. Khyal Zaman, president of TUJ Khyber Agency was rushed to hospital in Peshawar by Khasadar Force.

Meanwhile tribal union of Journalists Khyber Agency held meetings respectively at Landikotal and Karkhano Markets to condemn the life attempt on the TUJ President Khyal Zaman Afridi.The TUJ Khyber Agency members in the strongest possible words flayed the role of the kidnappers and their designs to kidnap and harass the tribal journalists while doing their professional duties to cover events taking place in tribal areas. They also asked the federal government, federal information minister and Governor NWFP to assist the tribal wounded journalist and forthwith arrest the culprits to bring them to justice. The tribal journalists vowed to launch a movement to press the government to protect the tribal journalists and make arrangements for their welfare on war footing. So far six Tribal Journalists have been killed in FATA while more than a dozens have been seriously wounded by kidnappers and unknown militants. Political leaders from FATA, tribal journalists FATA and a large number of social workers have condemned the life attempt on Khyal Zaman Afridi, president TUJ Khyber Agency.Sherry Rehman, Federal minister for information and broadcasting and federal secretary for information and broadcasting sent flower wreaths to Khyal Zaman afridi inscribed with a line: Get well soon”. APA Bara Fazle Qadir also himself came and consoled the senior tribal journalist. He assured that administration would arrest the criminals who injured him while his friend would be set free from the clutches of the kidnappers. Senior commanders of Lashker Islam also called Khyal Zaman for condemning the life attempt on him and assured him that the two kidnappers would not be released until his missing friend Wasim is got back and they are punished for their misdeed.
