Using Allvoices


What is required to contribute on Allvoices?

To contribute on Allvoices you need to register on the site. The registration process is simple. See the Sign Up section above and read how to register on Allvoices.

What can I contribute to Allvoices?

Registered users can contribute/submit content in the following ways on Allvoices:

  • Original reports drafted by the contributor with no plagiarism or copyright violations (breaking news or any topic within our terms)
  • Videos * (original or link to YouTube videos) to any report or People page
  • Images * (original or partner) to any report or People page
  • Comments (perspectives/opinions and discussion) to any report or People page
  • News stories related to existing contributor or mainstream reports (add URLs)
  • Related contributor reports (add URLs to other existing contributor reports)
  • Sharing content with friends via email or SMS
  • Sharing content with other communities such as Digg, Facebook, MySpace, Reddit, StumbleUpon, Twitter
  • Links to internal and external sites and blogs
  • Building your own profile page (multimedia portfolio)
  • Inviting friends to join Allvoices
  • Community monitoring of the site (flag content for violation of terms)

What is a Contributor Report?

A contributed news report is a submission of original content by a registered user on any topic within our terms. It is denoted by a blue star icon. Ideally, a contributor report is accompanied by videos, images, perspective, comments (discussion) and related news stories. This provides a rich user experience through aggregated news, multimedia, community discussions and multiple perspectives.

Your contributor report has a main report page with 2 main columns. The left column displays Related Contributor & Partner Videos and Images, your content/text and Comments. The right column displays your profile summary, Related Allvoices Contributions, Most Popular Reports and Related People.

The report page also shows tabs (separate pages) that include all related content. The tabs include:

  • News Stories
  • Blog Posts
  • Videos
  • Images
  • Comments

Contributor reports are ranked by relevance, time and activity (views, comments). Reports are dynamic and change over time depending on community participation and on online reporting.

What method can I use to submit content?

Users can submit content (contributor reports, related news articles, videos, images and comments) to Allvoices via:

  • Computer
  • Cell phone (SMS)

NOTE: If you are contributing from a cell phone for the first time, Allvoices will accept your submission without registering, but you will need to register with Allvoices to contribute again.

How do I submit a report?

After you have successfully registered, you can start contributing:

  • Sign in
  • Click the Report Your News button in the upper right
  • Add Title and Description
  • Choose Category
  • Enter location: Country, State (if applicable) and City
  • NOTE: Report location should be the location of the news. For opinion reports, simply choose your location.
  • Add related images, videos or related news stories by clicking the associated buttons to the right of the Title field.
  • Click SUBMIT

We recommend you keep an electronic draft of your report (e.g. Microsoft Word, an email draft) in the event you lose your Internet connection while submitting a report.

What happens after I submit my report?

When you post a report, our proprietary system validates the story's relevance and adds related news stories, videos, images and Related Allvoices Contributions within minutes.

How do I edit my report?

To edit reports:

  1. Sign in
  2. Go to your profile page (click your profile picture in the upper right)
  3. Find the report on your page and click the title
  4. Once on your report page, click EDIT REPORT

How do I delete my report?

To delete your own report:

  1. Sign in
  2. Click your username in the upper right to go to your profile page
  3. Find the report on your page and click the pencil icon at its upper left
  4. Click Delete

Is there a text minimum and maximum for a Contributor Report?

Minimum: We recommend at least 200 characters (and keywords) so the system can aggregate related mainstream news stories (via online news resources) and other contributor reports to your report.

NOTE: Content aggregated to your report from the public or community helps validate the current level of discussion or interest in the topic and adds to the visibility of your report.

Maximum: The text limit is 10K characters.

NOTE: If your report is longer, you may submit 'Part 1' and 'Part 2' for example. Well-written reports of reasonable length help attract more readers (i.e. more pageviews).

I'm trying to post for fourth report, but I'm being asked for additional information?

After you have submitted 3 reports, the system will ask for additional information for your security and account identification. Also, the Allvoices experience is centered on places and people, and the community wants to know the location of contributors.

The "Additional Information Requested" page will appear requesting:

  • Date of Birth
  • Country, State (if applicable) and City
  • Education
  • How did you hear about Allvoices? We hope you will share this info with us!

Can I edit or delete comments?

The system allows you to edit your comment within 15 minutes of submission. However, comments cannot be deleted.
