
Besse Cooper- an American- was recognized again by Guinness World Record as the world’s oldest living person last June 21st upon the death of the incumbent record holder from Brazil MARIA GOMES VALENTIM who barely holds the record for 35 days.
Born Bessy Berry Cooper on August 26, 1896 as the 3rd child out of 8 siblings in Sullivan County, Tennessee, Besse Cooper now lives in Monroe, Georgia. By August 26 this month, she will turn exactly 115 years of age.
She was born during the incumbency of the 23rd president of the US William Mckinley.
Besse Cooper was first proclaimed world’s oldest living person by Guinness World Records last January 31 upon the death of then holder EUNICE SANBORN of Jacksonville. Texas, US., but lost the title last May 18 to Maria Gomes Valentim when Guinness World Records was able to verify her date of birth in Brazil. Thus upon the death of Valentim as mentioned in the preceding paragraph, the title reverts to Besse Cooper.
Cooper currently lives in a nursing home in Georgia. It is not known if she was told that she is the title holder again.
Presented with a plaque by Guinness for her distinction in January, she proudly revealed the secret to her longevity of not eating junk food and not minding other people’s business.
In 1916 she graduated from East Tennessee Normal School and become a teacher before transferring residence to Georgia where she got employed as a teacher at the Between School.
Cooper gladly obeyed God’s law on procreation. She tied the marital knot with Luther Cooper in 1924, but after 39 years of blissful marriage, Luther joined his Maker in 1963, leaving the lovely Cooper, a widow.
During her 114th birthday. a count was made of her family. God had given her 4 children, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandcildren and 1 great-great- .grandchild. May his reign last.
