Looking for some good news among all the chaos?
Dale Ostrander from Spanaway, WA technically died last Friday in the Long Beach, Washington surf while at a youth group outing with his church.
He was playing around in the water when a huge wave over took him, a young girl paddled over on her boogie board in an attempt to save him, but it was not to happen as another wave came that knocked him off.
Meanwhile on the beach, as the kids heard of Dale's plight they fell to their knees in the sand praying relentlessly for him.
Search and rescue teams arrived and searched aimlessly in the Pacific Ocean near the shore in Washington State. For 20 long minutes Dale was not to be found. Finally rescuers located him and brought him to shore--he was totally unresponsive.
There was no pulse and he wasn't breathing. Upon arrival to the hospital, doctors found a weak pulse and put him on life support and his family was told to prepare for the worst. But people kept praying and praying and praying for Dale.
The prognosis was very dim for life coming from Dale ever again--his parents were told to expect the worst if anything at all.
"They never expected him to live," Mr Ostrander told reporters. "They expected him to be a vegetable, never walk, never talk, never say a word," as reported by MSNBC News.
Dale was put in a medically induced coma but on Sunday doctors decided to take him off life support, with the family fully expecting him to perish or at least have severe brain damage.
Like Lazarus raising from the dead, Dale Ostrander did the same and was able to breath on his own and cough.
Author's Fun fact: Almost daily at my lunch break I walk up and down a hill with a partner and around the front of the pillars of a church called Bethel Baptist Church. Dale's youth group and church family attend that church in Spanaway, WA right up the hill from the building where I work called, "Bethel School District."
The word "Bethel" in the Old Testament of the Bible means, "House of God." It is so nice to say, "I work in and next to the House of God."
Bethel School District is a public school who still allows God in their midst as the pledge of allegiance is said using "One nation under God" and during the Christmas holiday many songs performed by the choirs include Jesus was born.
Each day he is improving and a blog was created for people to pray for him and be informed of his status.
From Prayers for Dale Friday's entry:
Dale's MRI turned out well. His neck brace is off, and they'll be running more tests today. He tried to get out of bed to go to bathroom and had to be convinced by his dad that he wasn't able to walk to the bathroom.
The doctors are very hopeful and full of promise. It's still too early to know for sure, but they are saying it's possible that he could make a full recovery.
His family was singing some songs with him this morning, and he was doing hand motions to the songs. This morning he said "yes" and "no" to the nurses and said, "Stop it!" to his dad.
I Thessalonians 1:11,12 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. His family was singing some songs with him this morning, and he was doing hand motions to the songs.
