A 12 year old girl named Nicole Kissel has saved the life of another 12 year old named Charles Ostrander from drowning. The rescue was remarkable and just in the nick of time.
According to reports, Charles or called Dale by his friends was treading the turbulent waters of the Pacific when he got lost in the water. He cried for help and one person heard his call. Nicole immediately went into the water despite the objections of his father. She rode on her boogie board towards Dale. She managed to reach him as he was struggling to stay afloat. She helped him onto the three-foot board and paddled back to shore. They faced tough currents as they approached the beach. When they were close, a rogue wave slammed the both of them and knocked them off their board. Nicole managed to swim back up but Dale didn’t.
When rescuers reached the beach, people from Dale’s church were already crying and praying. One of the volunteers, Eddie Mendez, saw a shadow moving under the water. He and a diver rushed to the location where they found Dale floating about two feet below the water. Mendez immediately drove the boy to shore where EMTs were waiting. Along the way to the hospital, the EMTs continued giving CPR. When they were closing in on the hospital, Dale’s pulse returned.
Dale has been in ICU since Monday but has been moved yesterday. According to doctors, Dale might have brain damage because he was under water for too long. He will need physical and speech therapy. According to his parents, they trust God on Dale’s life and it is truly a miracle that he survived. Last Wednesday, Dale was able to utter some few words. When his parenst told him that he couldn’t get out of bed, he said, “Yes, I can.” And when Nicole Kissel came to visit him, he said two very special and emotional words, “Thank You.”
