Microsoft launched its new mobile operating system after having an unsuccessful outing with Windows Mobile platform. Windows Phone 7 (WP7) released on 2010 hasn’t been much successful either. Nokia has partnered with Microsoft to make WP7 its primary operating system in smartphones because of the decine in Symbian’s popularity. The deal will help WP7 in creating some buzz in those markets where Nokia still rule.

Although there are not many handsets in the market powered by Windows Phone 7 at the moment, we cannot say what’s gonna happen in future. We bring you 5 Top handsets available in India based on Windows Phone 7.

1. HTC HD7

HTC was one of the first companies to announce a few handsets powered by WP7 soon after the platform was released by Microsoft, and is the first company who released WP7 based phone in India. The HTC HD7, the first WP7 smartphone launched in India, has the largest screen of all the HTC smartphones running on WP7. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor, the phone houses an internal memory of 16GB and 576MB RAM. The handset has a 4.3 inch S-LCD capacitive touchscreen display and a 5MP camera with auto focus and dual LED flash. It also supports high definition video recording and playback. Connectivity options include 3G , Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB and GPS.

2. Dell Venue Pro

Venue Pro was the first WP7 based smartphone launched by Dell in India. The device features a 4.1 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with WVGA resolution. The screen is fall-resistant by the addition of the Gorilla display, which can also be found in Dell Streak tablet. The Venue Pro has a vertical slider QWERTY keypad. This is one of the very few WP7 handsets that sports QWERTY keypad along with LG Optimus 7Q and HTC 7 Pro. Venue Pro comes with a 5MP camera with autofocus and LED flash. The handset powered by 1GHz Snapdragon processor with Adreno 200 GP has got a 1GB flash ROM and 512MB DDR RAM. It comes with 16GB of internal storage with no memory card slot for expansion. Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS and microUSB features offer connectivity.

3. HTC 7 Mozart

HTC 7 Mozart is the second phone rolled out by HTC following HD7. HTC 7 Mozart sports a 3.7-inch S-LCD capacitive touchscreen with 480x800p resolution. It features an 8MP camera with autofocus and Xenon flash capabilities. It can record videos at 720p. Powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, Mozart has internal memory of 8GB and 576MB RAM with no support for memory expansion. The connectivity options of the phone include Wi-Fi, 3G and feature GPS support.

4. LG Optimus 7

The Optimus 7 is the first WP7 smartphone from the LG stable. It has a 3.8 inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen with 800X480 pixel resolution. The Optimus 7 sports a 5MP camera with LED flash and can record HD video at 720p. Powered by a 1 GHz QSD8650 Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, the phone ships with 16GB internal memory. Other features of the phone include a proximity sensor, digital compass, ambient light sensor and an accelerometer.

India Price: Rs 21,900

5. Samsung Omnia 7

Omnia 7 is the first Samsung phone powered by WP7 to reach India. Omnia 7 sports a 4-inch super AMOLED display screen with WVGA resolution. It has a 5MP camera with LED flash comes with a dedicated Camera key and supports video recording at 720p. Powered by 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, the handset houses 8GB of internal memory. Connectivity features in the phone comprise of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS.
