Nagasaki commemorated on Tuesday the 66 anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb which killed over 100,000 people with a plea for an end to nuclear energy.
At 11:02 local time (02:02 GMT), bells recalled the moment when the bomb exploded 500 meters above the city. The Nagasaki was the second atomic bomb in history.
The mayor of Nagasaki, Tomishia Taue, alluded to the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station and said, "No matter how much we take, it is necessary to promote development of renewable energy instead of nuclear energy."
For the first time, attended the ceremony a U.S. representative, a country that dropped the bomb during World War II.
