Millangoda Raja was all of 70-years when he passed away in a temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka. He was last seen in public in 2008 and had not been well for quite sometime.

He was one of the few Asian elephants who boasted of being endowed with the longest tusks in the world and his loss would be felt by the people who organize the Kandy Perahera annual festivals because . The tusks reached down to the ground level unlike the short tusks of the African origin elephants.

Millangoda Raja was one of a handful of huge tusked elephants that had been captured by his owner in 1945 ... Kandy is believed to be home to the tooth of Lord Buddha.
