The mayor of Lithuania's capital, Vilnius, has taken extreme measures to crack down on motorists parking their luxury cars illegally around the Lithuanian capital - by crushing their vehicles with a tank.

The dramatic video showing the Mayor of Vilnius Arturas Zuokas (43) destroying a Mercedes S-Class with a Soviet-era military armored vehicle was posted on the City website.

"That's what will happen if you park your car illegally," Zuokas, an avid cyclist, says after literally flattening the car, which was parked in a cycle lane.

The video then shows shocked owner of the car arriving at the scene. Zuokas shakes his hand and tells him: "Next time, park your car legally".

The owners of the luxury cars were probably stunt by the idea something similar could happen to their limousines.

The clip was made "to raise the public's awareness and urge both the residents of Vilnius and guests in our city to park in those areas that are legally designated for parking" and the scene had been staged.

"The car was brought in especially for this clip," a spokeswoman for Vilnius Mayor Rasa Razgaitis said.

"I wanted to draw attention to the fact that if you have a car and lots of money, it still doesn't mean that you can park your car wherever you want," Zuokas said.
