In 2008 the Republic of Uzbekistan established its first free industrial-economic zone (FIEZ) in the Navoi region. Known as the industrial center of Uzbekistan, Navoi FIEZ will be in operation for 30 years, with the possibility of additional extension. Foreign companies operating in Navoi enjoy favorable conditions, such as special customs and tax regulations as well as simplified procedure for inviting foreigners to enter the region.
Entry Visa – Invitation Requirements
A foreign citizen intending to do business in the free zone must obtain an entry visa based on a written request from the FIEZ Directorate submitted to the ministry of foreign affairs. A foreigner may apply for a visa at diplomatic representations abroad or at the consular office on arrival at the international airport. Visas issued for the territory FIEZ Navoi are valid for period of up to one year in case of business travel. In case of employment on the free zone territory, the visa is valid for the period of the work permit.
Temporary Residence Permit – Faster Processing
Temporary residence permit for the free zone is issued within maximum 5 working days after application at the FIEZ Directorate. This is considerably faster processing time than in other areas of Uzbekistan, where it may take several weeks to process the temporary residence permit request.
Work Permit – Simplified & Faster Procedure
A foreign citizen coming to Navoi FIEZ with the purpose of work may apply for work permit without conclusion from the territorial department of the ministry of labor and social security. Instead, the applicant must have confirmation from the agency for foreign labor migration affairs, which decides on granting the work permit within 10 working days from the day of application submission.
The above provisions apply to participants of economic activities and their family members, foreign citizens and stateless persons invited to work in Navoi FIEZ by local companies and residents.
