The Judicial Committee of the House of Representatives approved on Wednesday a U.S. initiative that seeks to abolish the visa lottery organized every year by the Department of State.

To enter into force on the bill, called "Security and Justice for the United States" should be approved by the Senate and the full House of Representatives.

The visa lottery program awarded each year by lottery to 55,000 documents for foreigners residing legally in the U.S.

The initiative to eliminate the lottery was introduced by Rep. Bob Goodlatte.
