Dear viewers, watch the dramatic photos attached with this report. A leopard strayed into Limbu basti in Prakash Nagar, near Salugada, on the outskirts of Siliguri on Tuesday, July 19. Several forest guards had been severely injured while trying to tranquilize the wild. Five villagers and several policemen were also injured.
“It was spotted near a house in the morning by villagers who raised an alarm, and this startled the leopard. With the villagers trying to chase it, it tried to flee and injured five villagers in the process. Then, the leopard took shelter in an abandoned house,” leading daily The Hindu quoted Kanchan Banerjee, forest ranger of the Sukna Wildlife Range as saying.
The forest department assumed the leopard came either from the Mahananda reserve forest or the Baikunthapur range. The full grown leopard died in the evening at the Sukna veterinary centre. A post-mortem will be done to find the reason behind the death.
