Venezuela has called on Sunday for the semifinals of the Copa America-2011, beating Chile 2 goals to 1 (halftime: 1-0) in the quarterfinals of ctte competition at the Stadium of the Bicentennial of San Juan , Argentina.

Venezuela, which will play as its first semi-final of the Copa America in history, will meet Wednesday in Mendoza Paraguay, winner of Brazil.

The tactical discipline of Venezuelans in midfield finally prevailed over the wishes of Chileans offensive that could not fully develop.

Venezuelans have opened the scoring in the 35th minute by Oswaldo Vizcarrondo. No other goal has been scored before the break. In the second half, Chile managed to equalize with Humberto Suazo in the 69th. In the 80th minute, however, Gabriel Cichero sent his team in the semifinals by scoring the winning goal.

"Fidel Castro has brought us luck," exclaimed the president of Venezuela Hugo Chavez on his Twitter site from Cuba where he says he watched the first half along with former Cuban leader Fidel Castro. Hugo Chavez arrived in Havana Saturday to begin chemotherapy.
