The city of Saint John in New Brunswick province is gripped by the most sennsational murder in decades. Richard Oland was murdered over a week ago. His body was discovered in his office in the city.
Police reports have been very much lacking in any detail. However reports say that Oland was bludgeoned to death with an ax. The police have simply said that the case is one of homicide! The Olands are one of the most prominent New Brunswick families.
Moosehead Breweries are run by Richard's brother but he himself has not been associated with the famous brewery for many years. No one has been arrested in the case and not even any suspects have been identified.
A source told the Toronto Star:"There have been no applications for any kind of warrant for anything,""They may get it solved but we are a long ways into it now and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot going on," "The case could break wide tomorrow but as each day lapses the trail goes colder and colder and the person who is the perpetrator will be so much more difficult to be interviewed successfully."
Yesterday the Saint John Police Chief Bill Redi in which he refused once again to comment on how Oland was murdered. Reid said:"The Saint John Police Force will not be commenting on any media reports; only those which we have released or authorized," "Information respecting the manner of death and any apparent motive, suspects or persons of interest must remain with the investigational team at this time." Why the manner of death details cannot be released is not clear.
However, the move may be in deference to the family. Prominent families in New Brunswick as no doubt everywhere else have influence! One would think that the police would release at least some broad detail or correct the ubiquitous reports by media that he was murdered with an ax.
Oland was generally popular and a supporter of his city. THe motive of the murder is quite unclear although police claim that it was not a random act and that the murderer may very well have been known to Oland.
