Egypt's military has arrested four US nationals in the northern city of Suez for taking photos in a restricted zone in the Suez Canal.
"Three US nationals and their translator, a US-Egyptian dual citizen, were detained in the Port Tawfiq harbour," AFP quoted an official as saying on Tuesday.
Residents of Suez informed the military authorities after they saw the Americans were taking pictures and notes, said the official, who declined to name those arrested.
“They are not reporters for any media and did not have permission to take photographs," the official said.
The arrest of the American nationals coincided with a demonstration in Suez against the release on bail of seven police officers who were accused of killing protesters during country's 18-day revolution in February.
Egyptian protesters have also called for a million-man march across the country on Tuesday in protest at the slow pace of prosecution of ousted and those responsible for killing and wounding people during the country's historic revolution.
