JaMichael Brown was born in Texas at the weekend weighing 7. 25kg [16 pounds] – and his father says the hospital now affectionately refers to his son as “The Moose.”
"(The Dr) told us he was going be about 12lbs [5.45kg], but when he pulled him out it was as different story," Mr Brown said.
Mum Janet was booked in for a scheduled caesarean, expecting a big bub – but not this big! The hospital’s newborn nappies are too small for baby JaMichael, who was also born with a full head of hair.
“We’re just amazed,” Janet told the News-Journal.
“I can’t believe he’s that big. A lot of the baby clothes we bought for him will have to be returned. They’re already too small for him to wear.”
His other measurements are that of a 3-6 month old: he was 61cm long, his head measured 38.1cm and his chest 43cm.
Janet suffered from gestational diabetes during her pregnancy and so baby JaMichael is in intensive care to sort out his blood sugar levels.
"I’m happy," Janet said. "We’ll be here for a few more days, and then I’m looking forward to bringing JaMichael home and just loving on him."
JaMichael has three older sisters waiting at home for him, who are 18, 16 and 10. Will the Browns be adding to their brood? Not if mum has anything to say about it.
"That's it, no more now," Janet said.
