Reiki a form of energy healing promoting, healing and overall health

Reiki distinctive in its own right using universal energy along with the bodies own energy to heal one’s mind, body and soul.

Many people who do not understand Reiki or even acknowledge alternative therapies scoff at the idea that something which is not conventional such as drugs or surgery simply can not work. Even among those non-believers a curiosity grows as some conventional treatments cease to work and still have many in pain and discomfort.

Reiki had come to light as a Japanese form of alternative medicine. Then came the 1970’s, this form of healing being adopted by many practitioners in the world. Reiki is comprised of two Japanese words Rei which means Gods wisdom and Ki meaning life’s energy force.

Reiki is a particular type of energy work in which healing is performed by the practitioner, who channels the life force of energy through themselves to the patient. The patient is fully clothed and dependent upon the practitioner’s healing method there is either no touch or very little touch. Practitioner will place their hands in various positions dependent on the area to be healed.

Reiki just like many other alternative therapies treat the body as a whole including mind, emotions and spirit.

Reiki has numerous healing benefits among them are:

It speeds up the body’s own natural healing ability

Decreases blood pressure

Supports the immune system

There have been a few studies conducted on Reiki in one study Pain, Anxiety and Depression in Chronically Ill Patients with Reiki Healing, the purpose was to measure the results of Reiki and its effects on pain, anxiety and depression.

The study had consisted of 120 patients followed for one year. Among the compliments from patients were headaches, cancer, heart disease, hypertension and asthma. The conclusion of the study had shown that Reiki had remarked effects on anxiety, pain and depression. The study was published in Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine Journal, Vol. 9, No. 1: 1998.

Another study conducted by Integrative Cancer Therapies, it was determined among the two groups of colon cancer patients, the group receiving Reiki once daily had shown less fatigue and higher quality of life in comparison to those that did not receive Reiki.

Reiki sessions can cost an average from 55.00 and up. Check for Reiki practitioners in which belong to an association, work in an alternative setting or come recommended through friends or family. To see if you will feel comfortable with them either stop by their office or talk with them on the phone.

Reiki is an amazing idea and just now starting to make its way into a more global setting. I think it will be interesting to both see if it stays around in a mainstream format and if so what progress is made in its execution.

I am a practitioner and find there are those who greatly benefit from the art. If you are out of options with the doctors and drugs, it may be found to be useful.

I recently came across a movie The Healer, a book Ada, Legend of a Healer, and a TV show A Gifted Man... I believe healing is on the rise.

Reiki is a very powerful form of holistic medicine because it treats the body as a whole including mind, emotions and spirit. This allows the practitioner to focus on the mind-body-spirit connections that contribute to our general wellness. I would recommend everyone give it a try. I am also a fan of acupuncture, which is similar and very relaxing. If you are unfamiliar with holistic medicine check our the book Focus on Healing by Jennnifer Barraclough - it is written by a doctor and great intro book into how and why holistic medicine works.
