Putting his money where his mouth is, Mayor Michael Bloomberg fought hard to legalize same-sex marriage in the state of New York. Now that the fruits of his labor have bloomed, the mayor will have an opportunity to reside over a same-sex marriage.
Bloomberg will officiate over the ceremony of his chief policy adviser, John Feinblatt and his commissioner for consumer affairs, Jonathan Mintz. The couple have been together for fourteen years and have two daughters.
The ceremony is scheduled for July 24th and will be held at the Gracie Mansion. The wedding will celebrate the couples union and the one month anniversary of the same-sex marriage bill into law. Signed by Governor, the new law made New York the sixth state to recognize same-sex marriages.
Bloomberg is no new-comer to officiating weddings. Presiding over his daughter, Emma’s wedding and former Mayor Rudy Giuliani. The duties of the mayor include officiating over weddings. Bloomberg, unmarried, has limited his use of the rite. His own status is partnership with Diana Taylor.
