Birthday wishes are certainly in order for Malia Obama as the daughter of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama is an Independence Day baby. According to Hollywood Life, the older of the Obama's two daughters turns 13 on Fourth of July.
This July 4 is America's 235th birthday and Malia Obama's 13th. Unfortunately, Malia had to share her parents with thousands of others on her special day. President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama invited hundreds of troops and their families from across the country to attend a special barbecue and USO concert on the South Lawn along with the best views of the annual fireworks show on the National Mall.
Malia, who is almost as tall as her 5-foot-11-inch mother, gained respect for handling the spotlight with grace and self-confidence. So does little sister Sasha, 10, who was once called "sassy" by Michelle Obama.
Obama recently praised his daughters in an interview, saying that Malia and her sister Sasha, 10, are well-behaved, responsible girls. "I could not ask for better kids," he said. "I'm not anticipating complete mayhem for the next four, five years. But I understand teenage-hood is complicated." "Malia and Sasha, for whatever reasons and I think Michelle gets the lion's share of the credit, they're smart, they're funny, but most importantly, they're kind, they're respectful, they're responsible, they're well-behaved. I should also point out that I have men with guns that surround them often. And a great incentive for running for re-election is that they never get in a car with a boy who had a beer. And that's a pretty good thing”, he said.
Still, Obama must worry about watching his girls grow into young adults. After a tour of a Chrysler plant in Ohio, Obama watched workers put the finishing touches on a Wrangler and commented that the off-road vehicle symbolizes "freedom, adventure, hitting the open road, never looking back — which is why Malia and Sasha will never buy one. Until maybe they're 35. I don't want any adventure for them."
Reportedly, Obama joked at a re-election campaign fundraiser in New York City last month featuring "Sister Act" star Whoopi Goldberg, that the 1992 movie helped him figure out where to send his daughters. "They're getting a little too old and too cute," Obama said of Malia and Sasha.
