Turkey: 99,659 couples marry in the first quarter 2011

ANKARA - A total of 99,659 couples got married and 31,413 couples divorced in the first quarter of 2011 in Turkey, reported Friday the Anatolia news agency.

TurkStat said the number of marriages increased by 2.7% in first quarter (January, February, March) in 2011 compared to the same quarter in 2010, adding that 97,072 couples have said "yes" in the first quarter of 2010.

The largest increase in the number of marriages was recorded in the region of Anatolia with 10.3%, while the largest decrease was observed in the Black Sea region with 6.2%, according Turkstat .

Some 31,413 couples divorced in the first quarter 2011, 0.4% more than during the same period in 2010, added TurkStat.

The largest increase in divorces was recorded in the Marmara region with 7.3%, according to TurkStat, who added the first quarter, a decrease was observed in the region of Anatolia with 6.7%.
