Davao City, Philippines - Yesterday morning, June 29, 2011, who happens to be the Feast of Saint Peter Cathedral here in Davao City. But the said feast also came with a disastrous turn of event.
12:00 Mid-Night, was the start of the flash flood here in Davao City. Matina Pangi, Matina Aplaya, Matina Balusong, NHA Bangkal and some parts of Talomo were all affected by the said flood. The said flash floods was termed as the Davao City Ondoy. The said flash flood started at the River at Matina Pangi, at around 11:30 PM of June 28 was the time the water started to rise and the Arroyo Compound in Matina Pangi was the one that experience the worst of the flash flood where in a number of their residents died.
The flood had killed 25 people and killed 15 chidlren as young as 2 years old.
My family and I were also affected by the same flood. The water were able to get inside our house. Good thing we got a second floor which is why our family did not experience what others have experienced. The flood water in our house reached until knees while the flood waters outside our house reach upto the neck.
The flood water also brought strong current which it made rescuing our neighbors who were greatly affected by the flood impossible to rescue. Some of our neighbors were already waiting on top of theri houses, while waiting for the flood waters to reside.
The Flood even place a crack on the Balusong Bridge, which is why the bridge was not passable that morning. Good thing they were able to repair the damage and right now the bridge is already passable.
We experience the flood and it was the worst flood ever that ever strike davao city. Here are some Photos which I took from my cellphone the morning of the flash flood here are some of the images taken.
