Hundreds of people lost their pets after the monster tornado hit Joplin, Missouri, Sunday, May 22 about 5:40 p.m.

But volunteers from the JHS (Joplin Humane Society), ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and other animal welfare organizations are bringing about happy situation, like reuniting lost pets to their rightful owners.

Courtesy of Janice Lloyd and USA Today, with the help of kind-hearted volunteers, made Louise Huges’ life and her dog SWEET PEA whole once more (see picture) after they were separated for a number of days.

“Hundreds of pet owners have been reunited with their four-legged family members, making families whole again," added Karen Aquino, executive director of JHS.

Many more pets are still without their homes.

Unclaimed animals have been up for adoption during a major event hosted by the ASPCA and Joplin Humane Society
