Grounded Ship, MV.AL RAWDAH on Batu Berhanti Reef.

On 19th June 2011, at 21:00PM West Indonesia Time I've got a report from my senior about a ship grounding just about near Sambu Island. In next 15 minutes I was heading to the grounding site at Batu Berhanti on Sambu Water near Singapore Straits.

I saw MV.AL RAWDAH just sitting on top of the reef!. After make radio contact to the bridge, I came on board and meet the Captain and ask for the latest condition. The ship was grounding at 20:56pm Local Time.

The ship is listing 11 degres to port, steady on this position and have a little flooding water from unknown leaking in the compartment number three. It was handling and sounding every 15 minutes and untill the water level stop by itself.

But one thing that they missed is not telling us about the Chief Engineer that was sick on board. And he is passed away in the next morning on age 60.The dead body just flying to the Jakarta to the Embassy today.

The ship Agency is PT.Samudera Indonesia, and their manage to release the ship with Smit Salvage Pte.Ltd Singapore. MV.Al RAWDAH just sailing from Port Klang-Malaysia and heading to Qingdao-China. Its 75.579GT built in 2008 a group of UASC, she is carried 3242 containers, but most of the containers are empty.
