Hyderabad, June 21 : A staunch protagonist of separate Telangana State and founder-member of Telangana Rashtra Samithi, Prof. K.
He was 76.
Prof. Jaishankar was ailing for some time with cancer and was undergoing treatment in the hospital. Only a few days back he was shifted to his native place Akkampet under Atmakur mandal of Warngal district where he breathed his last.
Born on August 6, 1934 in Atmakur, Prof. Jaishankar obtained degree in Economics from Aligarh and Banaras universities and secured Ph.D from Osmania University. He served as Principal of Warangal CKM from 1975 to 79 and served as Registrar of Kakatiya University from 1989 to 1981. Later, he served as Registrar of CEFL from 1982 to 91 and later as Vice-Chancellor of KU till 1994.
Having studied extensively on regional imbalances, Prof. Jaishankar played an active role for the cause of Telangana State from his student days. He was deeply involved in the separate Telangana agitation in 1969. As a matter of fact, he was instrument and guiding force in the formation of TRS.
Shocked and grieved at the untimely demise of Prof. Jaishankar, the TRS president, Mr K. Chandrashekar Rao, and the Telangana JAC Convenor, Prof. Kodandaram, immediately rushed to Hanmakonda. A large number of leaders from different walks of life, including the ministers, Mr K. Reddy, Mr Ponnala Laxmaiah, Mr V. Sunitha Laxma Reddy, Ms D. K. Aruna, and Dr Shailajanath expressed grief over his demise. They described Prof. Jaishankar’s demise as an irreparable loss to the State.
According to the family members, the mortal remains of the departed leader would be kept in the Ekasila Park in Hanamkonda to facilitate the people to pay homage. The last rites to the body would be performed on Wednesday, they added.
