Demi Moore has joined hands with CNN Freedom Project to throw light on Nepal’s Stolen Children: a CNN Freedom Project Documentary. She witnessed the original newly released documentary, which will be premiered to a world wide audience on Sunday, June 26th at 8:00 pm ET.
Being an anti- sex trafficking activist, Moore is headed to Nepal to team up with CNN 2010 hero of the year, Anuradha Koirala. She also leads Maiti Nepal, an organization that came into existence in 1993 and which has rescued 12, 000 Nepalese Children from sex trafficking.
In the interview premiering on June 26, Moore has emphasized on the need for better law enforcement to tackle the demand side of sex trafficking, while educating and rehabilitating young victims of abusive practices.
She describes her experience at Maiti Nepal as wonderful and amazing, but at the same time awfully painful when she sits in a room with so many survivors. She said, “We need to hear their stories, we need to know that they are not just statistics. Each and every one of them has a personal story and I think the incredible beauty was in seeing how Anuradha, who herself is a survivor of domestic abuse, and the power of survivor lead the organization”.
She said that one thing she truly admires is the beauty of the community and to witness not just what was a second chance for these women, but a first opportunity at life. While explaining about her passion and source of inspiration, she said that she and her husband hated the thought of just sitting back and watching children being raped for profit, and not do anything to help them. She and her husband always wanted to do something, to which they could really commit themselves.
While the full interview airs, Sunday night, CNN also plans to bring to forefront few of the thousand victims who have been rescued from forced prostitution. You can hear their first hand sentimens on how they were taken and where they were sent. The CNN Freedom Project coverage of modern-day slavery is sure to spur many viewers to think what they can do to help.
