Rep. Anthony Weiner recently resigned due to pressure from every side after his sexting scandal got exposed, but despite the scandal, Rep. Anthony Weiner is still getting all the retirement perks

Rep. Anthony Weiner may have lost all his reputation and support after the sexting scandal got exposed, but he is taking home all the retirement benefits which are accorded to all members of Congress who leave public service.

Rep. Anthony Weiner had to resign after the pressure from all sides mounted, including from his own party. Last month, an explicit picture was sent from Weiner’s Twitter account to that of a 21-year-old girl by the name of Gennette Cordova. The picture was a shot of Anthony Weiner’s crotch which was pulled off from the page after few minutes of being posted. However, the news sites had already seen the picture and the news was all over the internet. When Weiner got to know that the news had been exposed, he said that his Twitter account had gotten hacked and it was not him who had posted that picture on the girl’s twitter account. Despite saying that, Weiner did not order the authorities to investigate the matter and neither did he answer the question which asked him whether the picture was his.

Initially the Democrats believed that their party-member was just the victim of a hacking-incident, but the Republicans maintained right from the beginning that Wiener himself had made this terrible blunder. However later, Anthony Wiener himself admitted to have posted the picture and also told the public that he was involved in a virtual relationship with five other women over the internet. Despite admitting to this, he did not resign. Anthony Wiener at last succumbed to all the pressure for him to resign, and did so two days back. He apologized to everyone, including his wife Huma Abedin and stepped down from his position after a lot of humiliation.

Even after stepping down like this, Anthony Weiner will still get all the retirement benefits from the Congress. He will be eligible for a congressional pension of up to $46,244 each year. In addition to that Weiner will even be able to collect the balance of his Congressional Thrift Savings Plan, which currently stands at $216,011.

Anthony Weiner will also be able to keep his health-care package, at his own expense, till the end of November, 2012. He will be entitled to other perks and privileges like; access to the House floor during regular or joint sessions, option to buy his office furniture at subsidized cost, get free parking on the House side of the Capitol and get subsidized membership to the congressional gym.
